Meet Your District Forester, Representing the Forestry Assistance Program (FAP)
ERIC BRANDON
Alcona and Iosco Conservation Districts Forester, Eric Brandon was recently awarded with the title of Certified Forester by the Society of American Foresters. SAF certification is recognized by the forestry industry, government officials and landowners as the gold standard for foresters. Eric Brandon joined the Conservation District on Feb 1st, 2016. Eric serves as Forester for Iosco and Alcona Conservation Districts. He is an experienced Forester, having received his forestry degree from Southern Illinois University in 1977 and being hired as forester and logging superintendent in Ironwood in 1978. In 1991, he accepted employment with the land trust which managed the Kamehameha Schools' 400,000 acres in the central Upper Peninsula. After 15 years, he returned to southern Illinois before accepting the job here with the conservation districts.
As Forester, Eric's job is to educate private landowners in Iosco County about the conservation district's Qualified Forest Program(QFP). Through this program participants can eliminate up to 18 mills of school tax from their property taxes. This tax incentive program is available to landowners with taxable units of 20-640 acres. Eric stated that he is here to meet with landowners and advise them.
